Ein Wochenende lang sind die Türen der Ateliers der PLATFORM geöffnet. In den Studios können die Besucher_innen neue Arbeiten und aktuelle künstlerische Positionen entdecken aus Fotografie, Design, Grafik, Malerei, Bildhauerei, Textildesign, Hörspiel, experimentellem Film und Soundkunst. Führungen und verschiedene Aktionen laden die Gäste dazu ein, hinter die Kulissen zu blicken, künstlerische Techniken kennen zu lernen und persönlich mit den Künstler_innen ins Gespräch zu kommen.
Die begleitende Ausstellung JAHRESGABEN zeigt eine von Sophia Plaas zusammengestellte Auswahl von Arbeiten aus den Ateliers. ...

Die Gruppenausstellung „Vehikel“ zeigt keine klassischen Kunstwerke. Sie widmet sich stattdessen den vielfältigen (im)materiellen Einflüssen auf das künstlerische Schaffen selbst. Einzelne Materialien, Medien, Bilder, Bücher und Texte regen so zu einem Dialog über künstlerisches Arbeiten an.
Die Ausstellung orientiert sich dabei an den Prinzipien der vergleichenden Bildordnungssysteme des Kunst- und Kulturwissenschaftlers Aby Warburg. Dieser sah in den individuellen Bildkompositionen – er bezeichnete diese als „Bilderfahrzeuge“ – ein Instrument der Forschung. Im Vordergrund steht somit die assoziative und symbolische Metaebene der ausgewählten Objekte.
„Vehikel“ soll ein Anstoß sein, um neue Zusammenhänge und Deutungsebenen herzustellen, Anknüpfungspunkte zu finden, die Grenzen zwischen Kunst und Alltag, Inspiration und Schaffen auszuloten – und nicht zuletzt einen tieferen Einblick in die Gedankenwelt der Künstler*innen ermöglichen.

Im Frühjahr 2025 wird die 100. Ausstellung bei dr. julius art projects in Berlin stattfinden. Anstatt jedoch zurückzublicken und die Entwicklung oder die Geschichte von drj seit 2008 zum Thema zu machen, sind wir viel mehr daran interessiert, wie wir alle weitermachen werden. ...
Angesichts der unzähligen Krisen unserer Zeit, die vom Zerfall lokaler Kulturräume, den Verwerfungen in unseren Gesellschaften, einer steigenden Anzahl bewaffneter Konflikte und faschistisch-autoritären Tendenzen weltweit, bis hin zur offensichtlich nicht mehr umkehrbaren globalen Klimakatastrophe reichen, wollen wir umso mehr nach vorne schauen. In unserem Gedankenaustausch und den fortlaufenden Gesprächen mit kreativen Menschen weltweit haben wir festgestellt, dass sich viele von uns ständig und immer häufiger grundlegende Fragen stellen, etwa: »Wie mache ich trotz alledem weiter? Was ist die sinnvolle und relevante Bedeutung meiner Arbeit? Wie schaffe ich es, motiviert zu bleiben?« usw. Und die überwiegende Mehrheit von uns findet fast täglich individuelle Antworten auf diese Fragen. Daher ist …and going on. ein Projekt, das darauf abzielt, die vielen verschiedenen Wege aufzuzeigen, um weiterzumachen – von den eigenen inneren Konflikten bis zur tiefen Entschlossenheit, durchzuhalten.
Daher hat dr.julius art projects seit 0ktober 2024 Künstler:innen, Kurator:innen, Direktor:innen, Sammler:innen konzeptueller minimaler und verwandter Bereiche der zeitgenössischen Kunst eingeladen, ihre persönlichen Antworten mit uns zu teilen, komprimiert auf das klassische Medium der Postkarte.
Die Frage „Was lässt DICH weitermachen?“ wurde von all denen, die teilnahmen und jeweils ein spezielles Interesse an der Auseinandersetzung mit intellektuellen Konzepten und deren Umsetzung in Kunstwerke haben, höchst unterschiedlich umgesetzt. Es ist eine ganz besondere Auswahl an künstlerischen Gedanken, Haltungen, Ansätzen, Ideen und Werken zusammengekommen. Die kollektive Aussage, die daraus hervorgeht, kann als eine Art Gesamtkunstwerk gelten, das aus allen Beteiligten, dem Inhalt und dem Medium sowie der Zeit und dem Ort der Ausstellung besteht. Entstanden aus den Beiträgen unterschiedlichster Akteurinnen und Akteure dieses künstlerischen Feldes, ist ein wertvoller Ausdruck der schöpferischen und widerständigen Kraft der Kunst an sich entstanden.
Als Zeitdokument von Ende 2024 bis Anfang 2025 kann man es auch als einen Querschnitt von Ideen und Konzepten lesen, welche Hoffnung wecken, gegen die Widrigkeiten der Welt, wie sie sich heute darstellt.

"Welches Verhältnis besteht zwischen KünstlerInnen, Kunstwerk und dem Raum, in dem es entsteht? Was passiert, wenn das Atelier zum Ausstellungsraum wird? "Der Ort der Schöpfung – das Hirn des Künstlers – ist ein geheimer Ort, dessen äußeres Emblem ist das Atelier" (Brian O'Doherty).
Um genau diesen "geheimen Ort" geht es in diesem Ausstellungsprojekt. Verkörpert wird er durch einen ca. 250 qm großen fensterlosen Raum, welcher sich im Zentrum des zweiten Stockwerkes des Atelierhauses Studios ID in Alt-Hohenschönhausen befindet. Das ehemalige Gebäude (ID = Intelligence Department) wurde 1985 innerhalb des Sperrgebiets durch das Ministerium für Staatssicherheit erbaut und diente der Entwicklung, Produktion und Instandhaltung von verschiedenen Spionagegeräten. Der Raum ist "isoliert" im zweifachen Sinne: Zwar befindet er sich im Zentrum und ist umringt von zahlreichen Ateliers, doch ohne Fenster und nur mit zwei einfachen, bis jetzt immer versperrten Türen ist er von außen kaum wahrnehmbar. Von innen sind die Wände und Decke vollständig mit Kupfer ausgekleidet und somit von der Außenwelt faktisch abgeschirmt. Der Raum war somit sowohl abhörsicher als auch abstrahlsicher und wurde voraussichtlich für geheime Besprechungen und zum Testen von Spionage-Geräten oder Erstellung von Computerplatinen genutzt. Für die Ausstellung THE MISSING ROOM wird dieser Raum erstmals der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht."

Nachdem von den Atelierkünstler*innen während des Lockdowns gezwungenermaßen weniger in der PLATFORM gesehen wurde, tragen 25 von ihnen nun zu einer Gruppenausstellung bei, die sich mit dem Thema des neuen Abstands und der Entstehung künstlerischer Arbeiten aus der Isolation heraus beschäftigen.
Die Werke werden, ohne Rücksichtnahme auf das jeweilige künstlerische Medium, auf einheitlichen Sockeln positioniert. Neben Flachware und installativen Arbeiten finden sich bespielte Leuchtkästen. Diese streng konstruierte Präsentation und der dadurch auferlegte Abstand zwischen den Werken spielen mit dem Spannungsverhältnis von (künstlerischem) Miteinander, künstlerischer Freiheit und den corona-bedingten Regulierungen. Mit diesem Ausstellungskonzept thematisiert das Kuratorenteam Tabea Hopmans (Volontärin der PLATFORM) und Max Weisthoff (Bildender Künstler) die prekäre Lage der Kulturszene zu Zeiten von Corona – wenn auch mit einem Augenzwinkern.

Die Gesichter der merkwürdigen Tischgesellschaft sind hinter weißen Blütenmasken verborgen, die Mimik ist unkenntlich und der Genuss von Speisen oder Getränken unmöglich. Das Thema des Tischgesprächs lässt sich aus dem Titel der Arbeit ableiten: »Let’s talk about pollination«.
In hybriden Naturbildern und Skulpturen, die halb menschlich, halb pflanzlich sein können, denkt die tschechische Bildhauerin Fragen der heutigen Agrarkultur mit Blick auf Klimawandel und Biodiversität weiter. Ihre mutierenden Organismen sind Geschöpfe eines aus der Balance geratenen Ökosystems. In einem eigenwillig retro-futuristischen Stil findet sie zu neuen Formen, die einem umfassenden Anpassungsprozess an eine unwirtlicher werdende Umgebung Ausdruck verleihen. Im Wechsel aus harten und weichen, industriell gefertigten und organischen Materialien wie Beton, Holz, Bienenwaben oder Pappmaché sowie gezielten stilistischen Rückgriffen auf folkloristische Traditionen Osteuropas formuliert Hulačová Zukunftsvisionen einer gefährdeten Umwelt und einer fragilen Gesellschaft. Am Ende des Tischgesprächs bleiben die Stühle verwaist, die Masken aber sind arrangiert zu einem knochenbleichen plastischen Blütenstillleben.

Started as an archive on political propaganda with the focus on Belarus the „The Office for Anti-Propaganda“ drifted to a political platform. In cooperation with activists and cultural makers Office lounges and supports political campaigns, social projects, organizes protest actions, and publishes underground newspapers.
The emphasis lies on projects which work outside the white cube and has social and political relevance. The 16-page newspaper-size novel illustrates the events which happened in Belarus during 2010 Presidential Elections. This is a story about the elections and, in particular, of the day and night of December 19, when the citizens’ peaceful demonstration against falsified elections was brutally suppressed by the police. The novel presents two views on the developments in parallel. The first one shows how the events are interpreted by the state regime and currently widely publicized by state-run newspapers and television. The other version was assembled from information presented by independent media, which for the most part can exist only in the Internet, i.e. blogs, oppositional websites, users’ comments, testimonies of victims and political activists.

1971 veröffentlichte der brasilianische Künstler Antonio Dias (1944-2018) im Selbstverlag Record: The Space Between, ein Vinyl-LP-Audio-Projekt. Durch die Industrial-Szene kam Graf Haufen in Kontakt mit dem internationalen Netzwerk der Mail Art und wurde dort innerhalb kurzer Zeit ein bekannter Aktivist mit Kontakten auch zur subkulturellen Mail Art-Szene in Ost-Berlin. Von 1984 bis 1989 war er ein engagierter Mail Art– und Performancekünstler. Er betrieb eine eigene Version der Body Art, deklarierte seinen Körper als Kunstwerk, dokumentierte seine Anwesenheit an Orten mit Aufklebern und versuchte, seine Körperausscheidungen als Kunstobjekte zu verkaufen. Seine Wohnung richtete er als Wohnraum-Galerie mit wechselnden Ausstellungen internationaler Künstler ein, die teilweise auf die Situation der Wohnraumgalerie, die Artcore Gallery, abzielten. Später hat er auch die Galerie Paranorm mit betrieben. 1990 trat Graf Haufen in den Art-Strike, den Neoisten für die Jahre 1990–1993 ausgerufen hatten. Er ist seitdem nicht mehr künstlerisch tätig.

Das Künstlerbuch von Amelie Befeldt bildet den Abschluss einer ortsspezifischen Arbeit mit Projektbüro im Ausstellungsraum lAb in Bielefeld. Zu Beginn stand die Frage, mit welchen Strategien verschiedene Lebensentwürfe verfolgt werden und wie Alltag organisiert wird. In dem Bestreben außerhalb eines bzw. ihres studios zu agieren, absolvierte Befeldt „Alltagshospitationen“ bei verschiedenen BewohnerInnen der Nachbarschaft. Ergänzt wird die Recherche durch die Betrachtung von YouTube vlogs, in denen AutorInnen Bildproduktion als strukturierendes Moment in ihrem Alltag anzuwenden scheinen. Der Vergleich zu den vlogs, die sich formal und ästhetisch nur geringfügig von den Videosequenzen der Hospitationen zu unterscheiden scheinen, führt wiederum zurück zur Befragung der eigenen (künstlerischen?) Produktion.
Eine zitierende, in Fußnoten und Verlinkungen sprechende Erzählerin führt LeserInnen durch neu gesammeltes Material sowie durch Auszüge vorausgegangener Arbeiten der Künstlerin. Es entsteht eine narrative Collage, die auch als Lesebuch verstanden werden möchte und deren Dramaturgie die Aufmerksamkeit der LeserInnen verhandelt. Neben ruhigen konzentrierten Abschnitten finden sich Abschweifungen, die sichtbare Materialverdichtungen ergeben. Bereits gelesener Text wird ergänzt, überlagert und verändert. Reflexionen über Produktion von Kunst, vlogs und Alltag fordern gegen Ende der Publikation und im sich anschließenden Essay fast trotzig ein „Recht auf Autorenschaft“ ein.

Im Mittelpunkt der Videoinstallation "The Broken Pitcher" steht ein Ereignis in Zypern 2019: In einer Bankfiliale in Larnaka verhandelt eine Familie über die Zwangsvollstreckung ihres Einfamilienhauses. Der Ausgang des Gesprächs bleibt offen, scheint jedoch wenig aussichtsreich für die Betroffenen. Zwangsvollstreckungen gehörten zu den Maßnahmen, welche die Troika aus Vertretern der Europäischen Kommission, der Europäischen Zentralbank und des Internationalen Währungsfonds der zyprischen Regierung in der Folge der Wirtschaftskrise ab 2012 verordneten. Die Situation der hier dargestellten Familie steht stellvertretend für viele andere.
Die Videoarbeit besteht aus einem ersten Teil, in dem der Banktermin von Schauspieler*innen nachgestellt wird. Ein spekulativer Nachbau des Bankraums, der auf Grundlage der Gedächtnisnotizen der Familie konzipiert wurde, dient als Set und wurde in Zusammenarbeit mit einer Gruppe von Künstler*innen entwickelt. Jeder Gegenstand im Raum ist ein Kunstwerk, das der Begegnung beiwohnt und die Möglichkeit einer anders gelagerten Realität aufblitzen lässt. Inspiriert von Abbas Kiarostamis Film "Erster Fall, zweiter Fall" (1979, Iran) reagieren im zweiten Teil des Videos verschiedene interviewte Personen auf das Reenactment. Ihre Antworten spiegeln Perspektiven auf das international verbreitete Problem der Immobilienspekulation und resultierender Verschuldung wider: von Interessengruppen aus Zypern, Mietaktivist*innen aus Barcelona, Berlin und Beirut, von Menschen, die Ähnliches erlebt haben sowie von Anwält*innen, Ökonom*innen und Künstler*innen.
"The Broken Pitcher" setzt auf Zusammenarbeit und Dialog. Es verhandelt die Frage, wie das Finanzsystem funktioniert und wie man in dessen Abläufe eingreifen und diese verändern könnte. In München wird die Arbeit zwischen Juni und August 2023 an mehreren Abenden im öffentlichen Raum gezeigt. Anschließend an die Vorführungen gibt es Zeit für Austausch.

Produziert von BR Hörspiel und Medienkunst. Ausgangspunkt für Speicher ist VariaVision - Unendliche Fahrt, die 1965 realisierte, heute verschollene intermediale Arbeit von Alexander Kluge (Texte), Edgar Reitz (Filme) und Josef Anton Riedl (Musik) zum Thema des Reisens. VariaVision versuchte als Rauminstallation durch die gleichzeitige Vorführung und Wiedergabe von Filmen, mehrkanaliger Musik und Sprache eine neue und andere Wahrnehmung von Musik, Film und Text zu verwirklichen. Reitz und Kluge unterrichteten damals an der internationalen Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) Ulm, wo sich ab 1963 eines der ersten elektronischen Studios in Westdeutschland befand, das 1959 in München gegründete Siemens-Studio für elektronische Musik. Das Studio ist heute im Deutschen Museum München ausgestellt. Riedl realisierte in diesem Studio die Musik für VariaVision. Für Speicher hat Michaela Melián das Studio im Deutschen Museum München noch einmal zum Klingen gebracht. Diese Klänge, Töne, Geräusche wurden aufgezeichnet und bilden die klanglichen Basisbausteine für eine neue Komposition.

Das Studio Vier5 beschäftigt sich insbesondere mit der Außendarstellung und dem Erscheinungsbild verschiedener Museen und Ausstellungen. Ein Schwerpunkt des Studios liegt in der Entwicklung und Erforschung zeitgemässer Typografie sowie deren Anwendung.
So entwickelten die Designer das Logo und das Erscheinungsbild für die Außendarstellung des Museums Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt, Deutschland, wo sie 2005 auch eine Einzelausstellung hatten. Ebenso zeichnete das Büro für die Außendarstellung des Centre d’art contemporain de Brétigny (CAC Brétigny), Frankreich, verantwortlich. Von 2009 bis 2014 waren VIER5 Artist in Residence am CAC Brétigny. Für die documenta 12 (2007) entwarfen VIER5 das Leitsystem (Schilder, Containerbeschriftungen, sowie einfach verständliche Informationen und Zeichen). 2011 entwickelten sie das Erscheinungsbild sowie das Leitsystem für das 22E Festival International de l'Affiche et du Graphisme de Chaumont, Frankreich. Weiter waren sie verantwortlich für das Erscheinungsbild und Interventionen im öffentlichen Raum der Busan Biennale 2012, Südkorea. Von 2013 bis 2017 waren sie verantwortlich für das Erscheinungsbild des Johann Jacobs Museum in Zürich, Schweiz. 2014 wurden sie in das Designteam der documenta 14 berufen. Sie waren verantwortlich für den grafischen Gesamtauftritt der documenta 14 in Athen, Griechenland. Im Jahr 2016 betreuten sie das Erscheinungsbild der Kunstbiennale Suzhou Documents in Suzhou, China.
Arbeiten von VIER5 befinden sich in verschiedenen internationalen Museumssammlungen, wie z. B. der Bibliothèque Nationale de France, dem Centre national des arts plastiques[8], dem Les Arts Décoratifs, dem Museum für Gestaltung in Zürich, dem documenta-Archiv in Kassel, der Neuen Sammlung in München.
2021 hatte das Studio eine retrospektive Einzelausstellung seiner Arbeiten im Macro, Museum for contemporary art of Rome, Italien.

This monograph is the first to bring together four different projects by Till Velten, not to mention reflections of these in texts by authors and art historians. This type of reflection is likewise evidenced in the graphic design of the volume, as well as in the title and the new sculptural work of the “chains”, which can be found at the center of the book. Velten replaces images with conversations through which he thus creates new, fluid portraits of his subject matter. In the process, he steps into the role of director of a never-ending documentary recording. The notion of the conversation as a sketch of the world provides those involved with an active part, and Velten therefor sees himself as a “sculptor of conversations”. It is as though he gives his collaborators his questions so that they may address themselves. The core issue of the work then becomes recognizing oneself in the other and translating human inner worlds into art.
Die vorliegende Monografie versammelt erstmals vier verschiedene Projekte von Till Velten sowie deren Reflexion in Texten von Autoren und Kunsthistorikern. Diese Art der Reflexion zeigt sich auch in der grafischen Gestaltung des Bandes sowie im Titel und in der neuen skulpturalen Arbeit der „Ketten“, die im Zentrum des Buches zu finden ist. Velten ersetzt Bilder durch Gespräche und schafft so neue, fließende Porträts seines Themas. Dabei schlüpft er in die Rolle des Regisseurs einer nicht enden wollenden dokumentarischen Aufzeichnung. Bast Fooks was one of my new years resolutions for 2016. I haven’t given up smoking yet, but I did end up spending my new years eve in, printing and sewing the first Bast Fook issue. There and then I had decided that it would be a project in 12 parts and that I would produce a book for each month of 2016. Each Bast Fook is a repository of ideas (in the form of notes, thoughts, readings and misreadings, assumptions, aphorisms, contemplations, stories, lists, observations and lost projects). Bast Fooks have evolved into a platform through which, I can organise - in a pretty disorganised way-ideas as they happen and material produced in different ways, under different circumstances, at different places and times and sometimes by totally different versions of myself. Bast Fook is an anagram of Fast Book and in a way each issue is offering a slow consumption of a fastness that often reads a lot like a facebook newsfeed, decentered, fragmented, multivoiced.

Stijn Jonckheere (°1989) recieved his MA in explorative architectural development in 2012. While working as an architect his personal work gained traction, sparking his career as a visual artist. Monochrome yet visually tense, his work revolves around the themes of memory and alternative reality. Contrasting their minimalistic composition, his drawings often contain a more complex message, presenting a critical look at social behaviour within our built environment. Exhibited throughout Europe and featured in publications worldwide, Jonckheere subsequently ventured into teaching by means of his digital design masterclass and lectures given across architecture universities. He has lent his creative vision to a wide spectrum of projects, ranging from architecture to advertisement for both start-ups and high-profile clients. Jonckheere currently resides in Munich, where he is Art Director at a leading brand activation agency.

Im Rahmen des damit verbundenen europaweiten Wettbewerbs wurden Künstler dazu aufgefordert, sich mit der Thematik des Künstlerbuchs und seinen vielfältigen ästhetischen Ausdrucksformen auseinanderzusetzen. Die vorliegende Publikation stellt die fünf prämierten sowie 45 weitere ausgewählte Projekte vor.
To familiarize a broader public with the multi-faceted genre of artists' books, the MAK - Austrian Museum of Applied Arts, Contemporary Art in Vienna, the UPM - Museum of Decorative Arts based in Prague and Ljubljana's MGLC - International Centre of Graphic Arts have launched the EU-funded project "Artists' Books on Tour. Artist Competition and Mobile Museum". In a pan-European competition, artists were invited to deal with the subject of artists' books and their multiple forms of aesthetic expression. The present catalogue features the five winning projects and 45 other selected works.

This survey of experimental art and design magazines published since 2000 explores the various ways in which contemporary artists and designers utilize the magazine format as an experimental space for the presentation of artworks and text. Throughout the 20th century, international avant-garde activities in the visual arts and design were often codified first in the informal context of a magazine or journal. This exhibition, drawn from the holdings of the MoMA Library, follows the practice into the 21st century. The works on view represent a broad array of international titles within this genre, from community-building newspapers to image-only photography magazines to conceptual design projects. The contents illustrate a diverse range of image-making, editing, design, printing, and distribution practices. There are obvious connections to the past lineage of artists’ magazines and little architecture and design magazines of the 20th century, as well as a clear sense of the application of new techniques of image-editing and printing methods. Assembled together, these contemporary magazines provide a first-hand view into these practices and represents the MoMA Library’s sustained effort to document and collect this medium.

In the 1960s and 1970s, the artist Ed Ruscha created a series of small photo-conceptual artist’s books, among them Twentysix Gas Stations, Various Small Fires, Every Building on the Sunset Strip, Thirtyfour Parking Lots, Real Estate Opportunities, and A Few Palm Trees. Featuring mundane subjects photographed prosaically, with idiosyncratically deadpan titles, these “small books” were sought after, collected, and loved by Ruscha’s fans and fellow artists. Over the past thirty years, close to 100 other small books that appropriated or paid homage to Ruscha’s have appeared throughout the world. This book collects ninety-one of these projects, showcasing the cover and sample layouts from each along with a description of the work. Following the example of French and British railway companies, C.P. (Portuguese Railways) built houses and social facilities between 1910-20, to support its employees and their families. Key projects implemented during the first quarter of the twentieth century included the Boneca neighbourhood, for retired railway workers, and the Vila Verde neighbourhood, in the alignment of the Bairro Camões neighbourhood. The latter was built in 1926 designed by Cottinelli Telmo and Luís da Cunha. All these neighbourhoods are located in the city of Entroncamento. The city itself was created because of the railways. The station was the first dwelling - at the time a small tent (1862). This new venture provoked major migration from the interior of Portugal, of those who wanted to work for the Company. As a consequence, C.P. (Portuguese Railways) developed a plan, involving a series of ambitious social support structures, perhaps unique at the national level. The company built neighbourhoods for employees, a school, a supplies warehouse, an anti-tuberculosis dispensary that operated as a health centre and also encouraged the development of sporting activities. In parallel with technological evolution and development of railway activities, the workshop area was expanded, included reinforced staff training, which reached a peak when a training centre was built, that is today called FERNAVE, house in a huge building, built from scratch for these functions and which formerly housed the Instituto Superior de Transportes (Higher Transport Institute).

‘Curated by Weekly’ is a digital art project. It aims to raise questions regarding online formats, web-based distribution and the acceleration of digital platforms in contemporary art. The project is made up of a website and a magazine, which will be released in irregular intervals. The latter will include essays and interventions about digital exhibition formats, the experiences of digital curation and the questions about media and matter in the post-analogue space. Every week, an artwork will be “curated” and published on the website. In cooperation with different individuals, institutions and independent projects from the art field, artistic positions and works will be displayed. They can function as pieces of art in the digital sphere as well as be critical about it, or to contrast itself with the functions of the web. The project’s pace and composition orientates itself around the relevant visual environment of the present day.
The format of the website is consciously purely visual, while complementary content will be published in the magazine. This content will consist of essays and contributions around certain questions. For example: How new formats will be established in contemporary art, which technological tools are required or how curation is practiced in a digital space. What should particularly be highlighted is determining which artistic media, surfaces and materialities provide an adequate digital environment.
'Curated by Weekly' aims for an experimental format, which uses the speed and the possibilities of the digital space, but instead of reproductions and documentations we want to show artistic work itself, to address availability in the digital space and to use catchy visual surfaces. At the same time, the discourse and the self-reflection of the format is discussed in the appearing magazines/readers online and offline.

Von der reinen Abbildung gelöst nähert er sich seinen Themen über das Material, kombiniert harte Oberflächen, fragile Glasobjekte und abstrahierte Bilder. Subtil setzt er kulturelle Verweise und zeichnet so das Bild einer postsozialistischen Gesellschaft, die durch Härte, Überforderung, Sehnsüchte und Nostalgie gleichermaßen geprägt ist. Eric Meier studierte bei Heidi Specker an der HGB in Leipzig und bei Manfred Pernice an der UdK in Berlin.

Chances are that you will be far more familiar with Brian Eno and his work than you might realise. Whether you know him as a founding member of the gloriously influential 1970s art-rock outfit Roxy Music, or as the inventor of ambient music, in one breathless career Eno has actually released no less than 25 solo albums and contributed to countless projects and collaborations, but also left his fingerprints on dozens of seminal albums as a producer – think U2, Talking Heads or Coldplay, to name but a few – composed several film scores not to mention the start-up theme for Microsoft’s Windows 95. All of which is to say that it is hard to not be in earshot of his musical influence in one way or another. With mono.kultur, Brian Eno talked about the impact of technology on culture, the similarities between producing music and parenting, and why they called Elvis ‘The Pelvis’. Given Brian Eno’s interest in how art can affect moods and emotions, our new issue turned into somewhat of an experiment in chromatics, with the pages gradually traveling the entire colour spectrum from yellow to blue and back again, which not only affects the optical perception of the yellow text, but also how one responds to the content of the interview. Suffice to say: this must certainly rank as the most colourful mono.kultur to date.

The project unfolds over the course of the month of July in six chapters that flow into one another, occasionally overlapping. INTERIORS TO BEING expands radically outwards, realizing half of its projects in Berlin’s public space.
The city of Berlin is a partner of INTERIORS TO BEING as any curator or participating artists in the program would be. The cityscape functions anthropomorphically–with the city’s growth and continual change impacting the way artists move within it. INTERIORS TO BEING internalizes these changes through the framework of its community. All contributors to INTERIORS TO BEING are part of the extensive creative network of PICTURE BERLIN (founded in 2009, a not-for-profit artist initiated hybrid residency/art academy), which is a community made up of more than two hundred international artists and curators, two-thirds of whom are based in Berlin.
The red thread running through all events is the dérive, a term devised by Situationist Guy Debord to describe an aimless wandering through different urban environments that leads to the development of a psycho-geographical awareness. This concept beautifully sums up the way INTERIORS TO BEING works as a project in the city of Berlin.

The cityscape functions anthropomorphically–with the city’s growth and continual change impacting the way artists move within it. INTERIORS TO BEING internalizes these changes through the framework of its community. All contributors to INTERIORS TO BEING are part of the extensive creative network of PICTURE BERLIN (founded in 2009, a not-for-profit artist initiated hybrid residency/art academy), which is a community made up of more than two hundred international artists and curators, two-thirds of whom are based in Berlin.
The red thread running through all events is the dérive, a term devised by Situationist Guy Debord to describe an aimless wandering through different urban environments that leads to the development of a psycho-geographical awareness. This concept beautifully sums up the way INTERIORS TO BEING works as a project in the city of Berlin.

Oda Projesi is an artist collective based in Istanbul; composed of Özge Açıkkol, Güneş Savaş and Seçil Yersel who turned their collaboration into a project in 2000. From January 2000, their space in Galata functioned as a non-profit independent space, hosting projects, gatherings and acts up until march 16th2005, when Oda Projesi was evicted from the apartment due to the process of gentrification. Since then Oda Projesi has a mobile status and not any more space based; continues to raise questions on space and place creating relationship models by using different mediums like radio stations, books, postcards, newspapers or giving form to different meeting points; depending on and respecting to the creativity of Istanbul and its citizens.

Die vierte Ausgabe des Buffer Fringe Festivals wurde unter der künstlerischen Leitung von Charalambia Theophanous organisiert und fand zwischen dem 08.-11.11.2017 in der Altstadt von Nikosia statt. Das Festival fand an verschiedenen nicht-theatergebundenen Orten und öffentlichen Plätzen statt: in Garage, am Faneromeni-Platz, am Selimiye-Platz, am Arasta-Platz, am Bedesten und im Bandabulya.
Alle Aktivitäten im Rahmen des Festivalprogramms waren öffentlich, für alle zugänglich und kostenlos. Das Publikum hatte die Möglichkeit, insgesamt 14 einzigartige Darbietungen aus verschiedenen Genres zu genießen, darunter Tanz, Theater, Musik, Malerei und Installationen. Zusätzlich zu den 7 lokalen Darbietungen aus ganz Zypern kamen auch 7 internationale Darbietungen aus Spanien, Deutschland, Irland, Japan, dem Vereinigten Königreich und Griechenland hinzu. After San Francisco’s new mayor announced imminent plans to “clean up” downtown with a new corporate “dot com corridor” and arts district - featuring the new headquarters of Twitter and Burning Man - curators Erick Lyle, Chris Johanson, and Kal Spelletich brought over one hundred artists and activists together with neighbourhood residents fearing displacement to consider Utopian aspirations and to plot alternate futures for the city. Opening in May 2012 at the Luggage Store Gallery, the resulting exhibition Streetopia was a massive anti-gentrification art fair that took place in venues throughout the city. For five weeks, Streetopia featured daily free talks, performances, and skillshares while operating a free community kitchen out of the gallery.
This book brings together all of the art and ephemera from the now-infamous show - featuring work by SWOON, Barry McGee, Emory Douglas, Monica Canilao, Rigo 23, Xara Thustra, Ryder Cooley, and many more. Using the format of an exhibition catalog as a jumping off point, the book also includes essays and interviews with key participants that consider the effectiveness of Streetopia’s projects while offering a deeper rumination on the continuing search for community - and for Utopia - in today’s increasingly homogeneous and gentrified neo-liberal cities in an era of unprecedented wealth disparity.

Die Löwin war los im vergangenen Sommer. Mit der Katastrophen-Warn-App NINA wurden in der Bevölkerung archaische Urängste vor vierbeinigen Fressfeinden wachgerufen. Gepanzertes Schwergerät pflügte durch die südlichen Wälder Berlins. Ein unscharfes Videodokument reichte, um ein Sondereinsatzkommando der Polizei ausrücken zu lassen und Jagd auf eine gefährliche »Löwin« zu machen, die dann doch nur ein Wildschwein war. Wer war hier eigentlich der oder die Gejagte?
Die Ausstellung »Catch me if you can« folgt der Fährte des menschlichen Jagdinstinkts. Wie viel von dessen Ursprünglichkeit steckt heute noch in uns? Sollte dieser etwa genetisch angelegt sein? Was ist aus den »Jägern und Sammlern« geworden, für die die Jagd bis zur neolithischen Revolution ein existenzielles Handwerk darstellte? Die digitalisierte, global vernetzte Welt mit ihren nicht zuletzt durch den Klimawandel veränderten ökologischen Systemen steht diesbezüglich vor neuen Herausforderungen. Gegenwärtige Jagdstrategien äußern sich im Natur- und Umweltschutz durch Wildtiermanagement oder kontrollierte Bejagung invasiver Arten. Sie verlagern sich aber zunehmend auch auf eine virtuelle Ebene, ein elektronisch abgestecktes Territorium zwischen trophäenorientiertem Gaming und Online-Schnäppchenjagd am Black Friday. Ein weites Jagdfeld, an das sich die künstlerischen Positionen der Schau hintersinnig und humorvoll heranpirschen.

Der italienische Künstler Guglielmo Achille Cavellini (1914-1990) stand mit zahlreichen internationalen Künstlerinnen und Künstlern in regem Austausch. In hohen Auflagen produzierte er im Rahmen seiner „Selbst-Historisierung“ Dokumente, Künstlerbücher, -postkarten, -briefmarken, oder auch einen weit verbreiteten Aufkleber in den italienischen Farben, mit dem er eine groß angelegte Ausstellung zu seinem diesjährigen 100. Geburtstag in Venedig voraussah. Ihm zu Ehren präsentiert das Zentrum für Künstlerpublikationen, kuratiert von Guy Schraenen, Künstlerpublikationen von Cavellini aus den Beständen des Archive for Small Press & Communication. Außerdem umfasst die Ausstellung eine Auswahl weiterer Projekte, die von einer vielfältigen, grenzüberschreitenden künstlerischen Kommunikation zeugen.
