Morris’ new bookwork, Getting Inside Jack Kerouac’s Head, is a performative retyping of the recently published original scroll edition of Jack Kerouac’s beat classic, On the Road. Morris’ project first appeared as an ongoing journey through the book, read and re-typed on a WordPress blog one page per day. This newly published codex version pours the content of that performative retyping back into the format of the paperback source book. It follows the default logic of a blog archive to put the last post, page at the start and stores the rest of the entries in reverse order. "A Set of Lines, A Stack of Paper" is the second in a series of exhibitions and publication based on a wide-reaching research about writing with the title 'Possible Content for 18 Pages'. The original typewritten manuscript of Vilém Flusser's essay 'The Gesture of Writing' provides the thematic and formal-aesthetic foundation for reflecting the act of writing at the intersection of linguistic, visual, physical and spatial communication. 'To write,' says the philosopher about the basic requirements that should lead to a complete piece of writing, we need 'a blank surface, for instance a white leaf of paper, an instrument which contains a matter that contrasts with the whiteness of the paper, the letters of the alphabet, the convention which gives a meaning to the letters, 'orthography' = correct writing, the rules which order that language, what is called 'grammar', an idea to be expressed in a language, and a motive to express that idea'. Understanding the act of writing as a culturally embedded gesture, 'A Set of Lines, A Stack of Paper' covers artistic, literary, as well as curatorial and editorial fields of action and combines them. The book is published on the occasion of the correspondent exhibition at KARST, Plymouth (June 5 - July 5, 2015). The publication comprises an exhibition documentation with installation views and a curatorial statement. Furthermore, the author Maria Fusco situates the concept of the exhibition in an actual context of literature.
The participating visual artists expand the topic of the exhibition with artistic contributions especially made for the book.

During the 1960s and 1970s, magazines became an important new site of artistic practice, functioning as an alternative exhibition space for the dematerialized practices of conceptual art. Artists created works expressly for these mass-produced, hand-editioned pages, using the ephemerality and the materiality of the magazine to challenge the conventions of both artistic medium and gallery. In Artists’ Magazines, Gwen Allen looks at the most important of these magazines in their heyday (the 1960s to the 1980s) and compiles a comprehensive, illustrated directory of hundreds of others.
Among the magazines Allen examines are Aspen (1965–1971), a multimedia magazine in a box—issues included Super-8 films, flexi-disc records, critical writings, artists’ postage stamps, and collectible chapbooks, Avalanche (1970-1976), which expressed the countercultural character of the emerging SoHo art community through its interviews and artist-designed contributions, and Real Life (1979-1994), published by Thomas Lawson and Susan Morgan as a forum for the Pictures generation. These and the other magazines Allen examines expressed their differences from mainstream media in both form and content: they cast their homemade, do-it-yourself quality against the slickness of an Artforum, and they created work that defied the formalist orthodoxy of the day. Artists’ Magazines, featuring abundant color illustrations of magazine covers and content, offers an essential guide to a little-explored medium.

‘Curated by Weekly’ is a digital art project. It aims to raise questions regarding online formats, web-based distribution and the acceleration of digital platforms in contemporary art. The project is made up of a website and a magazine, which will be released in irregular intervals. The latter will include essays and interventions about digital exhibition formats, the experiences of digital curation and the questions about media and matter in the post-analogue space. Every week, an artwork will be “curated” and published on the website. In cooperation with different individuals, institutions and independent projects from the art field, artistic positions and works will be displayed. They can function as pieces of art in the digital sphere as well as be critical about it, or to contrast itself with the functions of the web. The project’s pace and composition orientates itself around the relevant visual environment of the present day.
The format of the website is consciously purely visual, while complementary content will be published in the magazine. This content will consist of essays and contributions around certain questions. For example: How new formats will be established in contemporary art, which technological tools are required or how curation is practiced in a digital space. What should particularly be highlighted is determining which artistic media, surfaces and materialities provide an adequate digital environment.
'Curated by Weekly' aims for an experimental format, which uses the speed and the possibilities of the digital space, but instead of reproductions and documentations we want to show artistic work itself, to address availability in the digital space and to use catchy visual surfaces. At the same time, the discourse and the self-reflection of the format is discussed in the appearing magazines/readers online and offline.

Herman de Vries (b. 1931) is representing The Netherlands at the Biennale Arte 2015. Under the title to be all ways to be the Dutch pavilion exhibits new sculptures, objects, works on paper and photography by de vries. Educated as a horticulturist and natural scientist, de vries gathers, orders, isolates and displays objects from nature, directing our attention to both the unity and the diversity of the world around us. In his preparatory travels to Venice, de vries collected many objects from the Laguna, the Giardini and the city, resulting in multiple works both in the Dutch Pavilion and on the deserted island of Lazzaretto Vecchio in the southern Laguna. The exhibition is curated by Colin Huizing and Cees de Boe.

Wie verändert sich das Medium Buch in Zeiten der Digitalisierung? Welchen Einfluss nimmt der mediale Wandel auf dessen Nutzbarkeit? Was verändert er in der künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung mit der Gattung Buch?
Wissenschaftler verschiedenster Disziplinen rund um das Medium Buch befassen sich seit drei Jahren mit dieser Frage. Das von der DFG geförderte Projekt unter der Leitung von PD Dr. Viola Hildebrand-Schat endet diesen Sommer mit dem Symposium „Omnivore. Alleskönner Buch“ als Kooperationsveranstaltung zwischen dem Klingspor Museum Offenbach, der Abteilung Buchkunst und Grafik des Museums Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt sowie der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt.
Internationale Künstler und Wissenschaftler beschäftigen sich in ihren Vorträgen mit dem Buch als erweiterter Gestaltungs- und Kommunikationsraum.

The Brussels-based collectors Herman Daled and Nicole Daled refuse to perceive art as decoration and to, thereby, exploit it. They approach art in a fundamentally different way: Basis for their activities are their relationships and conversations with artists.
In keeping with the aim of Conceptual Art that places the intellectual content of a work above its realisation, they consider themselves not collectors but communicators and producers: They provide artists with the opportunity to also realise works outside of established market mechanisms. Their intense engagement with Conceptual Art, one of the most important movements in recent art history, goes far beyond usual collecting practices. This is not only apparent in the actual works, but also in the meticulously archived documents containing actions and works.
One of the most important influences for Herman and Nicole Daled was Marcel Broodthaers, more than 80 of his works are in their collection. Moreover, the collection holds several works by Daniel Buren, Dan Graham, On Kawara, Sol Lewitt, Niele Toroni, Lawrence Weiner, Cy Twombly and many more.

The Typographic Society Munich is the largest organisation in Europe for typographers and people who are interested in typography and design. Since being founded in 1874 the designers’ club establishes a foundation for sophisticated and interdisciplinary thinking and dialogues among content and form, text and photo, tradition and innovation, design and technology. The tgm represents quality and education for the branch of communication and offers a huge accompanying training program. As Chairwoman of the club I curated several lectures in the last years, inviting design and typography celebrities.Throughout the years designers like Stefan Sagmeister, Mirko Borsche, Eike König, Mario Lombardo, Sascha Lobe, Fons Hickmann, Amir Kassaei or Kurt Weidemann to name a view, followed these invitations and appreciated the warm welcome of our community.
To show the wide range of offerings we traditionally create a yearbook. More over I tried to give the content based complexity of our proposal a clear and neat arrangement. Therefore the new release is a compilation of four different books, which should invite the reader to inform themselves, to browse, to experience and to participate. The first one exposes all the topics, facts and dates for the further education programs. Part two presents all the people and their stories who are involved in the club, who are on stage and behind the scenes. The third book is a journey into the past and also the future of tgm’s conferences, excursions and other specials. And finally there is room for the reader’s own ideas, experiences and criticism as a foundation for a future dialogue with tgm.
Every offer under the roof of tgm is a result of solidarity. It is a result of people and companies who are united by the common interest in typographic quality. This project has only been possible with the support of Kösel Druck GmbH & Co Kg, Geese Paper, mycolorserver and the collaboration with Boah Kim.

Markus Oberndorfers Aufnahmen von Bunkeranlagen des NS-Regimes an den Stränden des Atlantikwalls im französischen Abschnitt rund um Cap Ferret sind beredte Zeugen vom Verschwinden und von der Veränderung und der Aneignung der mahnenden Relikte des 2.Weltkrieges.
Die über einen Zeitraum von mehreren Jahren (2005-2010) entstandenen Farbfotografien werden durch ihre Reduziertheit in Farbigkeit und Kontrast auch zur Metapher für die Vergänglichkeit des analogen Fotomaterials. Die Bunker selbst schreiben sich unscheinbar in die vom rauen Klima gezeichnete Landschaft ein. Heute dienen sie vor allem Surfern und Touristen als Aussichtsplateaus oder auch als ideale Wandflächen für Grafittikunst. „Foukauld-La Disparation“, so der Titel des Buches wie des gesamten Projektes, versteht sich gleichermaßen als künstlerische und als wissenschaftliche Arbeit. Es kann durchaus auch als Referenz auf den großen französischen Philosophen Michel Foucault mit seinen Überlegungen zu Geschichte und Gedächtnis gesehen werden,

The second issue of this street newspaper attempts to glimpse what social cohesion can be; seen through contemporary art practices coming together in different texts and interventions by our contributors. Dialectical cohesion presents itself in the archives of arts in the 21st century as an accumulation of reactionary movements. The impressionists against academism, surrealists against social standards, post-modernism against modernism, content-based interpretation against formalist interpolation.
“May the bridges I burn light the way” looks at both ends of the revolutionary act: the will to reach utopias and the urge to provoke dystopia. Artists always situate themselves in history by breaking with what they believed this profession to be before becoming artists. As a title, it implies a certain pessimism; anticipating the worst outcomes of a given situation. However, it also reveals the unfortunate desire to (always) be right.
“May the bridges I burn light the way” was the title of the summer camp we organized with EXILE gallery for the collateral events of the European Biennial in Palermo, the Manifesta 12. Many of this issue’s contributors intervened in Palermo following the curatorial idea of working together with the community at the Ballarò market and the community kitchen Cre.Zi Plus. Utopia here is not a promise but a joint venture. The group of people was deliberately brought together by invitation, but the summer camp was left to the unpredictable nature of the market vendors’ routines.

Das Projekt Book Nomad ist eine Initiative der abC (art book in China) Art Book Fair. Mit dem Fokus auf „Asianness“ beteiligen sich Akteur*innen der Künstlerbuchszene aus verschiedenen Städten mit einer eigenen Auswahl an Kunstpublikationen, die verschiedene kulturelle Perspektiven offenbaren.
Das Projekt folgt dem Motto „Nomadic and Imagined“ und wird in Form einer wachsenden Wanderausstellung gezeigt: Beispielsweise präsentierte einBuch.haus in Berlin insgesamt 47 Bücher, wovon 42 Bücher von den vorherigen Teilnehmer*innen ausgewählt und bereits in deren Räumlichkeiten ausgestellt wurden. Die Vienna Art Book Fair im Oktober 2023 folgte als bisher letzter Teilnehmer. Nach Mailand, Paris, Berlin und Rotterdam ist es die 5. Station der 2. Tour, welche durch Europa wanderte. Die 1. Tour war 2022 und reiste durch Stationen in Südostasien.
Nach dem Konzept von Book Nomad nimmt jeder Aussteller 5 weitere Publikationen von lokalen Künstler*innen und Verleger*innen in die Bücherliste auf, die zusammen mit den anderen Publikationen auch in den nachfolgenden Ausstellungsorten gezeigt und weiter ergänzt werden. Alle Publikation spiegeln auf ihre künstlerische Weise das Thema Asien wieder.
Mit Book Nomad sollen innovative, unabhängige Kunstpublikationen aus China und anderen Ländern einem globalen Publikum zugänglich gemacht werden.

Im Jahr 2015 begann Raban Ruddigkeit mit einem wöchentlichen grafischen Kommentar für die Berliner Zeitung DER TAGESSPIEGEL.
